7:02 pm - and now, a prayer
|
Our Father, who ch1llz in heaven, j00 r0ck! May all 0ur base are belong to you! May j00 pwn earth just like j00 pwn heaven. Give us this day our warez, mp3z, and pr0n through a phat pipe. And cut us some slack when we act like n00b lamerz, just as we teach n00bz when they act lamezorz on us. Please don’t give us root access on some poor d00d’z box when we’re too pissed off to think about what’s right and wrong, and if you could keep the f3i off our backs, that'd be pwnage. For j00 0wn r00t on all our b0x3n 4ever and ever, 4m3n.
i didn't write this, unfortunately.

CD creation meme ganked from mnemosyne15, isogon and brianl03
1. Random wiki! the first article on the page is the name of your band
2. Random quote! the last four words of the very last quote is the title of your album
3. Random photo! the third picture, no matter what it is, is your album cover
4. Use the graphics program of your choice (I used the gimp) to combine these elements and post the result at your journal.
I present to you March 18, 2004's seminal debut, Human Personification of Spring:

so i'm going to return to the chicago area for the better part of next week. i invite people who would like to hang out to get a hold of me. i recently purchased the first two seasons of venture brothers, and i think they bear watching by a group of people, such as a movie night, perhaps? i promise i'll show all the david bowie themed episodes.

9:53 am - yeah
|
hey, so i haven't updated this thing in a while. those of you in the know know that i'm still off in iowa doing nothing to advance my career in accordance with my total reluctance to do anything with my life.
two things:
i'm now employed at the local bus service here, cyride. before you start to fear for the well-being of the pedestrians here in ames, you should know that i'm not actually driving yet. i'm in the process of training and applying for my cdl, which should be bucketloads of fun.
because i'm still here, and i've always wanted to do this (but never had a solid concept), i have a show on the college radio station. it's friday nights from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. (central time for all you heathens in the eastern time zone). i've described the show as stoner/doom/drone/sludge, and if that hasn't scared you off yet, you can listen to the show at the appropriate hour from your computer (if you don't happen to live within 30 miles of ames, and if you aren't doing anything more interesting on a friday night) here.
Here's the playlist i have planned out for this friday: [0:05:05] black sabbath - sweet leaf (master of reality) [0:15:04] electric wizard - weird tales (dopethrone) [0:04:49] boris - heavy friends (heavy rocks) [0:05:19] kyuss - demon cleaner (welcome to sky valley) [1:03:31] sleep - dopesmoker (dopesmoker) [0:05:20] corrosion of conformity - albatross (deliverance) [0:03:11] fu manchu - asphalt risin' (in search of...) [0:08:16] acrimony - fire - dance (live from the planet urabalaboom) (the acid elephant) [0:04:44] the melvins - revolve (stoner witch) [0:01:42] queens of the stone age - quick and to the pointless (r: restricted to everyone, everywhere, all the time/feel good hit of the summer)
i'm going to make a point of playing an extended stoner rock epic or drone piece every show, because it's college radio and not enough people listen to it to complain. subwoofer recommended.

So, here's the best flash game, ever. It's a game where you redraw district lines in order to disenfranchise the opposing political party, or to ensure that everyone retains their seat. Let me tell you, gerrymandering isn't as easy as they make it out to be.

in recorded music, everything used to be played through one microphone. the way things were mixed was by moving the instrument closer or further away from the microphone. entire songs were done in one take. nowadays, everybody close-mics everything, and redoes each part to perfection. everybody, that is, with money. my band recorded two demonstration songs tonight with just one microphone, each its own unedited take. damn myspace and their 10 MB file size limit.

ganked from isogon
IF YOUR LIFE WAS A MOVIE, WHAT WOULD THE SOUNDTRACK BE? So, here's how it works: 1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc) 2. Put it on shuffle 3. Press play 4. For every question, type the song that's playing 5. When you go to a new question, press the next button 6. Don't lie and try to pretend you're cool...
( this should be interesting )

Ninja Techie! Congratulations! You scored 94! |
| You are a Jedi Master of stagecraft (...this is not the tie-line you're looking for...). You've done a fair bit of everything, and are uber-competant. Blathering directors are impressed by your vast knowledge and experience, and when doing on-stage scene shifts, the audience sees nothing! You have become one with the Gaff Tape. |
|
My test tracked 1 variable How you compared to other people your age and gender:
|
You scored higher than 99% on techpoints |
|
turns out if i say that i'm born 01 jan 1910, i'm better than 99% of everyone else.

9:59 am - easter goodness
|
well, it's been awhile since i've written here. i've been busy with either school, work, or my soul-crushing time-devouring hobby, ffxi (at least it's not wow, right?).
i thought i'd share something with you guys. see, yesterday was easter, and well, it just got me to thinking. when i become independently wealthy, i'm going to write and direct a movie. it'll be a zombie movie. it'll start in the ancient middle east, with jesus being crucified. then, after three days, he'll rise from the dead and bite people, spreading his zombie goodness. some have pointed out to me that this movie would never be produced in a major studio, but then i point out that i said "when i become independently wealthy" for a reason. and besides, it'd get tons of free publicity.
happy belated easter, everone!

7:13 pm - the splurge report: holey days, part one
|
eels - electro-shock blues (1998): it's difficult to describe this album without going into the details behind its making. in the year preceding the album's release, e's sister committed suicide, his mother was diagnosed with cancer, and e made electro-shock blues as part of his coping with loss. e delivers this in trademark absolutely dry voice, combined with his penchant for alternating between sweet, catchy melodies and minor key riffing, making an oddly moving work of art.
liquid tension experiment - liquid tension experiment 2 (1999): not much needs to be said about this. it's dream theater without their crappy singer. it's virtuosic to the point of self-indulgence. if you can't deal with it, then don't listen.
nirvana - sliver: best of the box (2005): the "courtney love needs more nose candy" fund must be running dry, because they just released most of these tracks in a box set. however, being the sucker i am, i picked this up. it has the more listenable tracks from the with the lights out box set, combined with some alternate versions of songs that didn't make it. not entirely necessary, but what the hell.
system of a down - hypnotize (2005): i really enjoy mezmerize. i listened to it (at an unhealthy volume, no less) most days going to and from work this past summer. it had the right balance of catchy melodies, headbanging breakdowns, and subversive material, and it was succintly short. hypnotize forgoes most of the catchiness and focuses on pounding out riff after metal riff. my expectations were not matched on this album, but somehow i'm not disappointed.
